Some people are wary of using a mosaic as a floor, they think it is too fragile to withstand weight and damage. Even though there is some truth behind that statement...it depends on the type of material you are using.
Natural stone mosaics are ideal for floor mosaics because of their durability. Natural stone mosaics are also more ideal for people who want a unique design. when using natural stone an important concept to keep in mind is that no two pieces are the same. For someone that wants a more unified look then natural stone might not be the perfect option and might want to into using a porcelain collection since porcelain is man-made. Natural stones can be used for wet areas. **If you would like use a polished natural stone mosaic in a wet area please consult with a tile expert or a contractor to be sure if it is not specified in the product description.**
Porcelain is also a great material to use as flooring material. Porcelain is a man-made material that is created to look like many different forms of materials. We have multiple wood porcelain collections that vary in sizes and textures. Wood porcelain is also a great alternative than real wood that was discussed in a previous blog. Porcelain is a durable material that can be more affordable than natural stone field and mosaics but also a wide range of colors, sizes, and textures. Our porcelain field collections consist of designs that mimic natural stones like marble and others that are unique in their own way. For an example our Rêves de Pierre Field is a great replica of real marble. There are various different color options to mimic different types of marble. However our Sol Denim collection is unlike any other with its original design. Porcelain mosaics can also be use as flooring and has been a recent trend in bathrooms. Porcelain can be used indoor and outdoor (when using outdoor be sure it is NOT in below freezing temperatures. The material can freeze and break.) A material to avoid when using as flooring materials is glass. Glass is a gorgeous material when being used as a wall installation! The glass reflects natural light and artificial light resulting in a natural and beautiful glow! Glass subway tiles are also great for shower WALLS only! Glass is a very delicate material that can be broken easily. Please advise when using the material.
**For all of our materials we suggest using unsanded grout. Using grout that contains sand can scratch the material causing an undesired look and feel. If your trusted tile expert and/or contractor prefers a different grout then please advise them to be delicate.**
