Bathroom tiles and which sizes are best!

Bathroom tiles and which sizes are best!

Nov 9th 2020

Bathrooms come in all different shapes and sizes, from master baths to powder rooms, every home is built different and each bathroom is personal to the family that lives there.  Picking the right size tile for your bathroom starts with the size of the bathroom.

Lets start with large or master bathrooms!

With a large or master bathroom, you have the ability to play with almost any size or shape you want. Marble or porcelain field is often a great place to start for the floor. You are able to cover a large area faster. Using a large field like an 18"x18" or a 12"x24" in marble or porcelain can even be pulled up the walls in the shower or for a waynes coat around the room.  If you are looking to go a little more bold for the floor, you can choose a mosaic for the entire floor. This could be a more high end option price wise but will really bring an elegant feel to the room.  With a full mosaic floor, we generally design the rest of the bathroom more simply like a subway tile for the walls or a larger field so the mosaics remains the main focal point.

Powder rooms or "half baths" are next.  Generally the place where guest are sent or often the cheaper bathroom does not mean it can not be fancy!  These bathrooms are great for smaller subway tiles or smaller mosaics. We do not suggest large field or tiles for these rooms because with a large tile in a small space, you will have a lot of cuts meaning uneven small pieces in corners that many people do not like the look of.  When designing powder rooms, I often pick a mosaic for the floor, marble or porcelain, and subway tiles for a waynes coat around the room, finishing with a chair rail or pencils to cap it off!

Showers! A question we get A TON here is what should we pick for the shower.  For the shower floor, I would suggest a small mosaic, in a matte or honed finished with a lot of grout lines for grip.  Our Sydney Pebbles collection is a great example of a perfect shower floor option.  For the walls, you can pull the floor up on one wall for a feature wall or go simple, depending on what you have in the rest of the bathroom.
