Small powder room, NO PROBLEM!

Small powder room, NO PROBLEM!

Dec 21st 2021

Having a small powder room in your home can seem like a difficult and annoying situation but there are many ways in which you can make the room appear larger. You can also use different items like pedestal sinks to maximize you space. Here are a few tips and tricks for ways you can tweak your design to help you with this problem.

Lets start with the base, your tile selection! This is a huge factor in how the room will look. For powder rooms, I usually always suggest a smaller mosaic or tile on the floor. This already will give you an illusion of a bigger space. Products like our 1" black and white hexLille mosaic, and our Fabrizio mosaic all work perfect for a small floor due to the scale of the mosaic. Now lets talk about wall tile. For powder rooms, it is not necessary to tile all the walls. Very common designs you will see maybe a waynes coat or no wall tile at all. A more modern take and my personal favorite, is to tile one full wall, normally the vanity wall, from floor to ceiling. Not only is this your feature wall now but it gives a main focus to the room.

Now fixtures is your next concern. Even though vanities are the most common element to put into a bathroom, sometimes for a powder room they do not make sense. Besides being too large, powder rooms do not really need all the storage that a regular bathroom needs. Pedestal sinks are one of the best options for a smaller powder room and with all the new designs, there is one that I am sure you will fall in love with.

Towel rings and small corner or wall shelves will also be your friends when designing a smaller room. Another great element I love to put into powder rooms are baskets! For toilet paper or extra towels, they add a little touch of warmth to every room.
