When buying a new home, renovating, or even flipping, deciding whether to choose natural stone or porcelain can be difficult. Naturally, everyone wants real marble in their home, especially when buying their forever home! Natural stone gives the perfect amount of natural beauty in each and every piece whether it is field tile or a mosaic. Porcelain has also come a large way from where it first started and rebranding itself into this new era of porcelain tiles; from wood porcelain to porcelain that mimics natural stone.

Using porcelain in your home is used to be not ideal especially for developers and interior designers. Everyone over the decades wanted to have real genuine marble in their home, no substitutions. Recently, porcelain has made many achievements in design, size, and finishes whether it is a mimic of real natural stone or a replica of hard wood tiles. Most people think that natural stone is ideal for their family and their home, however; it is not. After installing real natural stone, it is unlikely that the homeowner will remove it even after some discrepancies with the purchase. Some realize it is no longer suitable for them and the upkeep is going to be strenuous.

Natural Stone is extremely desirable and some stones are harder to find than others. Most of the time what someone picked put from a picture is not always what someone had wanted. For some people that is perfect! They fully understand the concept of natural stone and no two pieces are identical, however; some people plan their entire home based on a photo or sample they received and are unhappy with the finished product.

For those who are not a fan a surprises or guesses, porcelain might be ideal for you! Porcelain is perfect for anyone that once they fall in love with a tile that is it. That is the exact tile they are going to receive. Porcelain has also become super affordable is available in unique designs and patterns.

Porcelain is an extremely durable material that is perfect for most families and homes. When buying porcelain it is also crucial to research how many different "faces" or patterns the collection has. This is important because if you are trying to find a porcelain collection that mimic natural stone, you need to find a collection with many different faces. Faces in regards to porcelain means the same design, different pattern. The pattern being different means the veining is not identical in ever tile. It is common for some tiles to look identical however, you do not want EVERY tile looking identical. If most of the tiles (or about most of them) look the same, then the illusion of real stone will instantly be ruined because of the lack of variation. To sum up, you want you porcelain tiles to have variation if you are trying to obtain a more natural stone appearance. It is also important for your tile installer understands how to lay real natural stone and porcelain. An inexperienced tile installer might arrange the veining of the tiles in an undesirable way leaving a not so perfect look.
